Environmental issues and sustainable development
You are an important part of the university’s environmental activities. The university has 33,000 students and 4,000 employees, so what you and your friends do matters. On this page and via the links to the right, you will find some ideas and suggestions on what you can do.
The environmental work at the university is based on an environmental policy, where the university has the aim to be environmentally conscious and to encourage sustainable development. As a student, this affects you directly in your courses and programme of study, as well as when you take a break in your studies.
On this page you will find some suggestions on what you can do if you are concerned about the environment. If you want to know more about the environmental efforts at Umeå University, please browse through the environmental web pages on the university’s official web site (only in Swedish).
If you want to get involved in environmental issues in your department or in your everyday environment you may contact your student union and discuss or even start projects on environmental issues that you are concerned about. Another option is to contact the environmental coordinator at the University, Åsa Bäckström, and discuss your ideas with her.
